Behind The Story is a post-episodic web series that goes behind the scenes of some of Paramount’s latest and greatest shows, providing a cast and crew introspection into how an episode is made. This version of the web series takes us into the creation and genius behind Paramount+’s Lawmen: Bass Reeves, a Western mini-series based on the life of Bass Reeves, one of the first African American U.S. Marshals west of the Mississippi River, Starring David Oyelowo as Bass Reeves.

In this third installment of Behind The Story, we witness the moment Bass was deputized. We also meet Donald Sutherland’s character, Judge Isaac Parker (AKA The Hanging Judge), and Forrest Goodluck’s character, a wanted amateur outlaw and soon-to-be Bass’s law-enforcing partner, Billy Crow.
